| The club actually began in 1985 when a group of 5 friends who just wanted to play golf would get together. Edward Kimble, Art Hambric, George Traylor, Carl McCane, and Rivers Gee. Because Ed, Art and George worked for the Postal Service they could only play on the holiday which always fell on Mondays. So they would get 3 or 4 tee times and just invite other people to play and this is how we became known as the Holiday Golf Group.
They would play at various courses around the Greater East Bay and would join together at the home of one of the players immediately following the play for a family gathering. The wives would get together and prepare the feast. After a while the 5 friends became a group of many friends who loved to play golf, Leonard “Googie” Kirtley, Marilyn & Lorenzo Briscoe, Gwen McCane, Denise Kimble,Joyce & Robert Mack, JD Grady, Ivary Morrison,Joe Jacobs, Charlie Scott and Herb Rachel.
By 1988 because the number of friends playing had grown we decided to officially become a golf club with visions of raising money for scholarships for youths. Still keeping with our theme, all tournaments were scheduled around the holidays. Our first official tournament was played on Labor Day weekend at Green Tree GC in Vacaville, with a potluck fellowship at the home of our Tournament Director Ed Kimble. Back then we only scheduled about 6 tournaments a year. In 1990 we applied to the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA) to become an associate club. We were granted this honor in 1994.
We are now one of the fastest growing Associate Clubs in Northern California. Our membership stretches from Sacramento to Monterey. Our club is open to men and women of all ages and playing abilities. We schedule 12 tournaments a year. Our biggest tournament of the year is our Scholarship/Educational Invitational held in October of each year. Summer tournaments are Father’s Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day; are all followed by a fellowship gathering at the home of one of the members. The Club Championship is held every year during the Memorial Day weekend with a Golfer of the Year Banquet on Saturday night to socialize and get acquainted.
